It’s amazing how quickly the plans for a day can change on a moment’s notice. I had finished up a bunch of little projects around the studios yesterday and was planning to do the same today. I generally spend most of my time in Laramie but help out around the network as needed.

We received a report that our Pinedale station was off the air. I had our local contact reboot the exciter at the site. This put the station back on the air but the problem returned 24 hours later. This morning our Engineering Coordinator and I made a trip to check out the problem.

We were quickly able to reproduce the problem. It appears that the exciter does not like the output from the UPS when it switches to battery power. There is apparently a spike that causes the exciter to shut down until power is cycled. I powered the exciter from a different UPS and the problem was solved.

We are spending the night to make sure things are stable. Tomorrow we head back to Laramie. I love this job! 🙂
