Of course after one problem is fixed several more spring up…

Our station in Pinedale did not come back up after this afternoon’s service outage and the remote control would not answer the telephone line. After confirming with a local engineer that it was indeed off the air, I sent him to the site. He reported that the power had just gone out in all of Pinedale and that power had been out in the vicinity of the transmitter site earlier.

By the time he got to the site the power had returned but our satellite receiver was not producing any audio. Since I was no longer at the engineering shop and could not send the commands over the uplink I had him select the audio channels manually. Voila! Pinedale was back on the air. I suspect that the power was out at the site when I initially sent the commands to the satellite network after the earlier outages. That would also explain why the remote control did not answer.

In the process of checking the stations, I noticed that the Rock Springs transmitter remote control is not answering either…This is a relatively close site (3 hour drive, easy access) so I loaded up the truck and headed out. I am spending the night in Rock Springs and will visit the site in the morning.

I also noticed that our remote control in Laramie for KUWR is not responding properly. The data link to the transmitter site for the remote control appears to be down. I’ll have to go up to the site and check it out after I’m back from Rock Springs…Hopefully it wasn’t damaged by the recent lightning…

*sigh* It’s a lot of work some days but I still wouldn’t trade this job for anything.
