Recently the power company decided that the transformers feeding our Pilot Hill transmitter site were too small for the load.  There had not been any failures yet but they were concerned about issues in the future.

I had never seen a swap like this done before so it was quite fun to watch.

The power company brought three vehicles to the site…
A flatbed to haul the transformers, two bucket trucks to work on top of the pole and a boom truck to hoist the transformers to the pole.

The crew from Rocky Mountain Power reads data from the meter and prepares to disconnect power…

Time to go on generator again…

New transformers on the back of the truck…

Hoisting the new transformers from the truck to the ground…

Old transformers on pole before beginning work

Disconnecting the primary from the old transformer bank…
Note that the fuses have already been pulled

Hoisting the old transformers down from the pole…

Old transformers removed from pole

Assembling the new transformer bank

Hosting the new transformer bank up the pole…

Finished!

They also need to replace the cable between the transformers and the building but unfortunately did not have enough cable with them at the time.  They will need to come back at a later date to do this work…In addition, it appears that there are some tap adjustments that need to be made on the transformer bank.  Our line voltage has been slightly low since installing the new transformer bank…
