A month or so ago, our GoldenEagle monitoring unit in Sheridan developed a problem…It would run for a period of time and then shut down spontaneously. I pulled the unit and brought it back to Laramie. It ran on the bench for several weeks without an issue so I decided to bring it back out into the field. By this time, however, Sheridan was inaccessible. After one unsuccessful attempt with the truck, we rented a snow vehicle and went back to the site. The 8×8 “Argo” track vehicle got us into the site with no problem. Weather conditions were beautiful but more heavy snow was on the way…
Made it! Check out the view from Banner Ridge…
Reid reinstalls the GoldenEagle…
Time to head back!
The truck is waiting in a clearing at the bottom of the ridge…
On our way back from Sheridan, unfortunately, we discovered that Buffalo was off the air due to a failed satellite receiver. We did not have parts on hand to fix it so I would have to come back tomorrow.
