We had received a number of reports that our Dubois translator was off the air.  This site had recently been switched to a satellite audio feed to replace a microwave link that was being decommissioned…

The site is on a location called “Windy Ridge”.  It lives up to its name!  On this particular day, gusts were well over 100 mph.

One view from Windy Ridge…
To add to the fun, a blizzard was rolling in…

Our satellite dish had blown off point due to the high winds…
Reid braves the wind to attempt to restore service.

While Reid was working on the dish, I attempted to restore service via an Internet connection.  Note the DSL modem and router on top of the satellite receiver.  Also note the ‘Barix Box’ on top of the delay.  This is what we use for an alternate audio feed.  The delay unit is used to align the audio to another station on the same frequency which has an 8 second delay for HD.

Using a small 9″ ‘Netbook’ PC to configure the equipment…

Finished!  It works!
Reid got the dish working as well, which makes the Internet feed
a good backup for any future outage.

The weather conditions had become quite severe by this point…
Time to get out of here!
