What was I saying about the time of year to deal with translator issues? No sooner did I finish with Worland I started receiving complaints about our Evanston translator. Reid and I headed to the site to check it out. When we got to town we weren’t immediately hearing a problem, but we started to hear the issue the next morning.
Plenty of sites up on Medicine Butte!
Which one is ours again?
After a bit of radio direction finding, we found the translator site.
All of the towers on site had been coated in a layer of snow which was starting to shed…
No ice (fortunately) but I got hit with a few big gloppy snowballs falling off the towers!
An old forest service enclosure is the shelter for this site…
It is actually quite nice given what I have encountered at some other sites.
WPR’s translator…
It was falling victim to significant interference on the input.
This one did not have any sort of external filtering.
The replacement equipment provided a much cleaner signal due to tighter filtering on the receiver.
