I spent last night in Sundance and had arranged to meet someone with a snowmobile this morning to get me into the site. This time of year the last 4 miles of road up to our site turn into a very nice groomed snow trail.
Made it to the site. The snow is just starting…Better get out of here before it gets too bad…
The remote control (shown here in the center) is not operating properly. I need to pull it out and replace it with the one I brought from Casper.
The remote control from Casper needs a minor firmware upgrade before I install it here…
Done! Time to get out of here before the storm rolls in…
Greeted by a herd of deer as I come back down the hill…On to Newcastle!
Made it to the site in Newcastle…This site has suffered an HD Radio exporter failure.
This exporter is dead…Initially there were no indications at all. After power cycling the unit there is still no power light and the fault indication is lit.
I had brought a replacement unit with me for installation. This is what the front panel indicators SHOULD look like…The red indicators are normal at this time since I have not yet connected audio to the unit.
This is the display of the (now replaced and properly operating) exporter.
I got curious and wanted to see what had caused the failure of the old exporter…It looks like the clip holding the heatsink and fan to the CPU has failed. This certainly would be at least part of the issue…
Note the bulging large capacitors in this photo…This is a common cause for total failure of PC motherboards. Not generally repairable because PC motherboards are multi-layered. Repair attempts often cause irreparable damage to the board. This exporter will need a new motherboard.
Done in Newcastle! Snow had become pretty severe so I decided to spend the night and will head to my last site of the trip in Douglas tomorrow morning.
