About a year or so ago we placed a new station on the air in Rawlins. I had not been satisfied with the performance of the remote control that we installed so I decided to try another model.
The road to the site was still somewhat muddy and covered in snow. I was not able to make it all the way in with the truck so I had to walk the last bit up to the tower. You can see it in the upper-right hand corner of this picture. It’s still quite far away from this point but within walking distance…
Made it up to the building after a long walk…
The tower…Our antenna is the 3 bay FM near the bottom. Another FM station has a 4 bay antenna near the top.
I had to actually install the remote INSIDE the transmitter at this site. It worked out just fine since all of the things I need to monitor and control are available right inside the transmitter anyway.
Using a laptop to program the remote control…
Your mountain trotting engineer, satisfied with another job complete.
Now time to get back down off the mountain…Quite a hike back to the truck. At least it’s downhill!
The new remote is a CircuitWerkes SiCon 8. List price on the unit is around $1,299. It can be purchased through MW Persons and Associates (www.mwpersons.com). I have been extremely happy with it for this particular application. Quite a capable little unit for the price and thus far I have had only one failure (easily resolved) due to a surge on the phone line.
