This week’s task is to complete some additional work on the new station I have been busy building. Dan Houg of KAXE in Grand Rapids, Minnesota has come out for a visit to check out what’s going on and lend a hand. Today we head to the tower site to attempt to install the satellite dish.
This is a 2.4 meter KU receive dish. It is shipped in two halves and relatively easy to assemble. Two people can assemble one of these dishes in less than a couple of hours. Reid, Ben and Dan examine the halves and prepare to join them.
Reid and Dan begin placing the mounting post on the base. Contractors had previously poured the base at this site including the mounting bolts.
Placing the mounting post on the bolts…
Uh oh…The bolts don’t match up! Note the difference in spacing. There are eight bolts. They are supposed to be equally spaced around the mount. We may be able to rescue this by slightly bending the bolts into position since there is a slight amount of play in the holes on the mounting post.
Bending the misaligned bolt with a large crescent wrench…
Unfortunately we’re going to need some additional hardware to complete this task but at least we were able to make the post fit on the bolts…
