This week I’m working with the crew from Medicine Bow Tower to assemble the tower and antenna for my new station.  The tower and antenna were delivered to the site just before Christmas.  The crew estimates that we should be done by Wednesday or Thursday.  I’m going to stay on site until the tower is up in the air and then use a low power transmitter to do some coverage tests.

First step, free the nuts from the tower bolts.  The general contractor left parts of the template on the bolts along with some excess concrete from when the piers were poured around the bolts.

“Sheba” looks on…She belongs to one of the tower crew and seems quite content to watch the action.

Beginning to assemble the bottom section of the tower…While the other sections are pre-assembled, the lower section consists of three legs and cross-members that need to be bolted together.  I provided plans from the factory to the crew so they know how things go together.

The lower section is now 2/3 complete…We will need a forklift to finish assembling the 3rd leg.  These tower sections are solid steel and VERY heavy.

The forklift arrives on site…Unfortunately this forklift is not quite up to the job and unable to traverse the rolling terrain surrounding the site.  Another will be brought to the site tomorrow…Most likely the same one that was rented to offload the tower sections in the first place.

The area is called Teakettle Rock…Can you guess why?
