I received a call from our Gillette transmitter site that it was well over 100 degrees in the building.  I had gone to the site previously, found the issue and made a temporary fix.  This dropped the temperatures considerably but it was still much warmer than normal.  Parts to make permanent repairs arrived and I went back to the site.

My trusty chariot atop Antelope Butte

The air handler…Not bringing in cool air…

Here’s the problem…This component is called an “economizer” and brings in cool fresh air from outside…or at least that’s what it’s supposed to be doing.  This one has failed and no longer moves.

At the moment it’s over 88 degrees in the building.  Normal temperature should be around 70 degrees.

The building does have an emergency air inlet but it is relatively small…

Emergency exhaust fan…Also slightly too small to move enough air through the building in case of cooling failure.

The failed economizer motor…

Installing the replacement economizer motor…

Testing the replacement…Closed…

Open!  Problem fixed.

As I was leaving the site these two grass munchers appeared…

Done!  Everything is working as it should.

That’s better…Still a bit warm but much closer to 70 degrees.
