Our station in Sheridan went off the air…I visited the site and found a locked up exciter most likely caused by a faulty Uninterruptible Power Supply.  I ordered a replacement UPS and went back to the site the next day to install it.

Beautiful view of the Big Horn mountains from the access road to the site…Thank goodness I’m not going up there!

Cows stare as I approach on the access road…At least they aren’t trying to lick my truck!

The view from the top of Banner Ridge

Driving along the road at the top of the ridge…

I had brought the Argo just in case but was actually able to drive the truck into the site.  Quite surprising since this site was covered in snow less than a week ago…Extremely warm weather helped clear things up in a hurry.

Our FM station as well as the PBS TV translator resides in this building.  The equipment rack toward the far wall is ours.

This UPS has failed…Note the red light indicating a battery fault…While usually the fix would be to replace the battery pack, my experience with these units has been that more often than not this is actually an indication of internal failure in the unit.

Setting up the new UPS…

I have installed an optional network card in this UPS…This card will allow me to monitor and control the UPS via the network.  One helpful feature is the ability to power cycle outlet groups on the UPS in case the equipment locks up.

New UPS installation complete.

Yours truly with the KSUW equipment rack
