The next project on the list was to upgrade our transmitter in Jackson to allow for higher HD Radio power levels. We broadcast Classical Wyoming and Jazz Wyoming on HD Radio from this site as well. The increased HD Radio power levels will allow more reliable reception of these signals.
Ah, that new transmitter smell. Now how do we get this thing out of the crate?
The old transmitter and wiring are removed…
A filter to prevent interference with other transmitters at the site is moved as well.
Success! The new transmitter is in place! Now to start wiring…
The new transmitter offers more detailed diagnostics than the previous one did through a large front panel touchscreen interface.
3.46 Kilowatts of power output from the transmitter. Not bad at all. Note the ProCurve network switch mounted underneath the power metering display. There is a lot of equipment to be networked at this site as with our other sites…
That 3 kilowatts of power is heading to the very top of this tower. The two bay antenna at the very top belongs to us.
Another picture of the new transmitter. An older (analog only) transmitter stands ready at the left to provide backup service in the unlikely event the main transmitter should fail.
Another day, another project complete. This equipment rack is a bit messy but will soon be replaced with a newly rewired rack.
