I knew it wouldn’t be very long before I was back in Jackson…This time I received a report that our backup audio feed had failed.  Most likely another satellite receiver failure..

Our backup audio link is located in an attic…The satellite dish is on the roof.  Up I go!

Problem #1…The Uninterruptible Power Supply had failed.  I was able to purchase a replacement locally.

Problem #2–The satellite receiver is showing a red fault light and is not outputting any audio.

I need to pull the satellite receiver from the equipment rack to investigate.  This particular rack is wall mounted and hinges open for easier access.

The replacement UPS is functioning properly and providing power to the equipment rack.

The satellite receiver is back up and running.

I needed to borrow a keyboard a monitor in order to check the configuration on the receiver.  Since it would not boot, I needed to connect to the local keyboard and monitor ports.

All of those issues with the receiver were due to a faulty CMOS battery.  When the UPS died, the receiver lost all BIOS settings.  I replaced the (soldered) BIOS battery and reconfigured the settings.  Never a dull moment.  Until next time…
