Some time between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon we suffered a failure of our remote control for KUWR. KUWR is the flagship station for Wyoming Public Radio and is located here in Laramie, Wyoming. Most of our transmitters use a dialup phone line for remote control. KUWR uses a radio data link between the studios and transmitter since there is no phone line at the transmitter.

We found a problem in this link between the WPR studios and the KUWR transmitter. One of the serial ports on the radio at the studio had failed. It would transmit data but not would not receive it.

Once we finally tracked the problem down to that particular serial port we were able to switch to the other serial port on the radio.

Fun stuff! On to the next crisis…
