Apparently it is the time of year to deal with translator issues…We received a number of reports that our Worland translator was performing poorly. I had never been to the site before (one of the last that I had never actually visited). Once we drove into Worland, we could clearly hear that the translator was […]

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we are replacing the translator in Rawlins with a full service station (KUWI). Today’s task was to bring the antenna bays to the site for installation by the tower crew which will be scheduled soon… Unpacking the antenna bays to load into the Argo…

We had received a number of reports that our Dubois translator was off the air. This site had recently been switched to a satellite audio feed to replace a microwave link that was being decommissioned… The site is on a location called “Windy Ridge”. It lives up to its name! It was fairly simple to fix…I replaced the entire satellite receiver rather than replacing the failed power supply in the field. This required reprogramming the replacement […]

A month or so ago, our GoldenEagle monitoring unit in Sheridan developed a problem…It would run for a period of time and then shut down spontaneously. I pulled the unit and brought it back to Laramie. It ran on the bench for several weeks without an issue so I decided to bring it back out […]

During our last trip to Powell, we discovered that the cable on the satellite dish had started to deteriorate. While the cable was still functioning, it could eventually fail if water penetrated into the cable. Back at the site again…A bit snowier this time!

Once we had finished in Powell we headed over to Afton. The plan was to rewire this site as well. We stayed in a really neat little place that rented cabins by the night.

If you have been following my blog, you might recall that I have been spending some time rewiring sites to provide a bit more detailed remote monitoring and control. Powell is one of the last on the list…Afton, Rock Springs and Douglas still remain to be completed. Made it to the site…UW88 stands tall next […]
